Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the science-fiction thriller “Intelligent Life” at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners.

“Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the “Intelligent Life” script, based on an earlier project titled “The Ambassador” about a U.N. worker in a department representing humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien, to be played by Nyong’o.

Frank Marshall is producing with Trevorrow along with the Big Beach production company.

Amblin executives are interested in “Selma” director Ava DuVernay to direct but have not made her an offer.

“Intelligent Life” was set up a year ago at DreamWorks. The new Amblin Partners company was founded in December by Steven Spielberg, Jeff Skoll of Participant Media, Anil Ambani of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and Darren Throop of Entertainment One; it will focus on producing and distributing films under the DreamWorks Pictures, Amblin and Participant brands.

Nyong’o won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in “12 years a Slave.” She starred as Maz Kanata in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and is part of the voice cast of Disney’s “The Jungle Book,” which opens April 15.
