Michelle Obama Can’t Handle How Attractive the Star Trek Cast Is

Michelle Obama, America's coolest mom, has lived in the White House for eight years, but she still gets excited when she meets handsome famous people. At a screening of Star Trek Beyond at the White House on Wednesday, she introduced Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban and promptly wigged out for a second. "Isn't it cool that they're here? There are movie stars here," she said. "See, I still do this when movie stars show up." 

Then, she said what everyone was thinking: "Let's just admit it, ladies, they're very handsome, aren't they? I mean, we've got to just let that out. I could tell you wanted to just release that." Whew.

The screening was part of the Obama's "Joining Forces" initiative, which is designed to show support for military members and their families — about 100 veterans and active military members attended the screening. "This is just a small but hopefully special way that we can show you how much we here at the White House and how many people, including all of the creators and the stars of Star Trek, how cool they think you all are," Obama said. "We can't say it enough."

Rihanna continues to unveil her trekkie side

Two days ago, iTunes teased "Sledgehammer," a new single from Rihanna that will be used in the Star Trek Beyond soundtrack, and today, the sexy songstress announced that "Sledgehammer" will be officially released on Monday morning.

A video accompanied the announcement and begins with shots of the the Enterprise and its crew being attacked, and then the video zooms out and we see the word "SLEDGEHAMMER" forming. It concludes with an image of Rihanna appearing and she has alien markings painted on her face.

Rihanna has shown more than a little interest in Star Trek before.

All the Details (So Far) About CBS All Access' New 'Star Trek' Series

The premiere will air on CBS, but then it moves to their streaming service for the rest of the episodes. 3. It debuts this January. I'm going to feel like a kid again watching Star Trek on tv.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, and to commemorate the occasion, CBS has teamed up with Mattel to create an exclusive line of Kirk, Spock, and Uhura dolls from the Barbie collection. Capturing the spirit of the original series – an era which this summer’s Star Trek Beyond will revisit – the dolls feature the old-school Federation attire, complete with the Starfleet insignia and the pop art color scheme. You can check out an exclusive image of the Trek Barbie dolls above; the dolls are $34.95 and will be in retail stores later this month.

Rihanna Designed a Collection of Sunglasses for Dior Inspired by La Forge from Star Trek

The glasses look exactly as they’re described: extremely futuristic, while also giving some strong 80s vibes. Rihanna told Dior that La Forge from Star Trek was her inspiration for the glasses. “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.”

Rihanna is a trekkie, who knew?

Saturn Awards honors Nichelle Nichols and others this June

The Saturn Awards honor excellence in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror entertainment, and this year's 42nd annual awards have some notable honorees. In the special awards categories, there are plenty of familiar names to comicbook and genre fans.

Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek receives the Lifetime Achievement Award for her pioneering role as Lt. Uhura on the original TV series. The actress has also contributed to "the musical arts" and has presented "tireless support of NASA and space exploration."

The Saturn Awards will be presented in Burbank, CA on June 22, 2016.

MAC Cosmetics has announced a Star Trek-themed line celebrating the film and TV franchise’s 50th anniversary. And resistance, as they say, is futile.

Set to hit stores Sept. 1 and go online Aug. 25, the collection will make its debut at San Diego Comic-Con as part of an exclusive one-day presale July 21 at the MAC Cosmetics store in the Gaslamp district.

“Star Trek is an iconic pop culture phenomenon whose storylines pushed gender and racial boundaries,” says MAC creative director James Gager of the beauty brand’s decision to launch the line. “For its 50th anniversary, we celebrate each of Star Trek’s powerful women in a transcending, transformational makeup collection.”

Inspired by Commander Deanna Troi, Uhura, Vina Orion Girl and Seven of Nine, the 25-piece special deco collection features a mix of lip, eye and face products.

Zoe Saldana Models Her Redesigned 'Uhura' Uniform For Star Trek: Beyond

At first glance Saldana's garb won't seem a whole lot different to what she wore as Uhura in the last 2 Star Trek flicks, but fans of the original series will surely note that she's now sporting sleeves for the first time, just as Nichelle Nichols did back in the day.

No extra material has been added to the lower part of the uniform, however, as Saldana noted during an interview with Yahoo! on the Vancouver set of Star Trek Beyond last Summer.
