Misty Knight costume: How to look like your favorite 'Luke Cage' character this Halloween

Misty Knight costume: How to look like your favorite 'Luke Cage' character this Halloween

If you've managed to watch just a single episode of Netflix's Luke Cage series, you know that Misty Knight, as played by Simone Missick, is its breakout star — a woman who calls Luke Cage on his shit, a detective with an ironclad sense of loyalty and a craving for justice.

"I don't just seek justice. I stalk it," she tells Luke Cage. Though in the show she's without her signature red suit and bionic arm, she's the standout star in her glitzy dresses and no-nonsense suits. She's the 21st century's answer to Sherlock Holmes, only cooler.

And that's just a few of the reasons why we love her so, and also why she'd be a great Halloween costume for the laziest among us.

To help you on this journey to becoming Misty Knight, we've rounded up a few items that could help you encapsulate her look:

I only just started the series myself (three episodes in), but I LOVE Misty. I read somewhere she's getting the most positive reviews of the series and it's no surprise, she's awesome.

Check out this article from Fusion, highlighting the tough and dynamic ladies of Luke Cage:

Misty Knight And Claire Temple Take Center Stage On Latest 'Luke Cage' Posters

Image from MCU Exchange

We’re officially two weeks away from the release of Luke Cage, the third collaboration between Marvel and Netflix. The show, which is already receiving plenty of praise from critics ahead of its debut, marks the first time Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage headlines his own series after first appearing in last year’s Jessica Jones. However, as exciting as it’ll be to see Colter take the lead this time around, there’s also another reason Marvel fans should be excited. After all, Luke Cage will mark the live action debut of fan-favorite Misty Knight, played by actress Simone Missick. The series will also see the return of Rosario Dawson‘s Claire Temple, a character that fans have come to love since her debut back in Daredevil season one.

While most of the focus thus far has been on Colter and Mahershala Ali‘s Cottonmouth, Marvel and Netflix have since turned their attention towards the show’s leading ladies. In the posters (shown below), which were released on Twitter this morning, we see Claire and Misty sporting two lines from the show that do a rather great job at highlighting their characters.

New 'Luke Cage' Image Features Simone Missick As Misty Knight Alongside Mike Colter's Titular Hero

Image from Comic Book Movie

As we get closer to the September premiere date of Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage, we're starting to see more and more promotion for the highly anticipated follow up to Jessica Jones.

In the comics, Knight is a cop that loses an arm and reinvents herself as a crime-fighting hero after some Tony Stark upgrades. It remains to be seen if her small-screen counterpart will follow suit, however.

Luke Cage punches onto Netflix on September 30th.

Marvel TV Head On Possibility Of Misty Knight Netflix Spinoff

Misty Knight
Image from Comic Book

Surprisingly it wasn't Luke Cage or Iron Fist that received the highest praise at Marvel TV's San Diego Comic-Con panel. That honor instead goes to Simone Missick, who will be bringing the character of Misty Knight to life for the very first time.

Missick's character will have ties to both Danny Rand and Luke Cage, and will play an important role in both of their upcoming series. With such plentiful opportunities to shine, the topic of her own spinoff series inevitably came up when THR spoke to Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb.

"We're very lucky in a sense that our casts are so rich and deep and so diverse. We certainly have plans for all of our characters. A lot of it has to do with exactly how many shows Netflix is actually going to let us make. We're up to six now. He pauses to laugh and continues, "At a certain point, we have to be careful that we're not becoming the Marvel channel on Netflix."

He laughed when told that fans wouldn't be very upset if that happened.

"Nor would we," Loeb says. "But I think Netflix is being very selective in terms of where we're going. That being said, Simone just knocked it so far out of the park that we're still trying to find the baseball. It's somewhere out there traversing the globe. So it's really great. And I can tell you that what she's doing on Luke Cage, it's just incredible. The fans are really going to love it."

For Missick, she would be completely for it if the opportunity came about.

"Somebody put it on Twitter that they want to see a Misty Knight series with Shonda Rhimes as one of the writers. I was like, 'Hell yeah,'" Missick tells The Hollywood Reporter. "How cool would that be? If you say it, if you put it out there, maybe it will happen. Tweet it, and it will come."

She was then asked about the reaction she received at the panel.

"I was completely surprised, I will say that," Missick says. "There was this picture of me on Getty Images – please, no one find it – but I have the biggest, goofiest smile on my face. I was blown away at the audience. I mean, really?! I never imagined it."

Luke Cage hits Netflix on September 30th.

Nicole Beharie Says ‘Creative Tension’ Led to Her 'Sleepy Hollow' Departure and other news

Nicole Beharie

While attending yesterday’s Brave Summit: Women in Media panel at Georgetown University, Sleepy Hollow actress, Nicole Beharie, reportedly gave attendees a glimpse into what led to her character being killed off during the show’s shocking season three finale. According to journalist Phyllis A. Gilchrist, Nicole cited “creative tension” as the reason behind her no longer appearing on the show.
- Least surprising revelation ever.

New Yorkers will find this clever play on common GOT phrases funny (I've spent enough time there that it even made me laugh).

She talks about how 'Luke Cage' is going to be unique within the Marvel Universe.

The animated property was about Raju, a boy from Mumbai whose mentor, develops a suit that activates the chakras of the human body and gives the user superpowers. The live action film has Raju as an adult in his twenties, battling villains in Mumbai.
- Sounds super cool, can't wait until it comes to the States.

Luke Cage To Have Hip-Hop Vibe, Rich Writing, And A Mustard Shirt

While at the Captain America: Civil War premiere last night, Entertainment Weekly talked to Cheo Hodari Coker, showrunner for the upcoming Luke Cage series and Coker hinted at what we can expect tone-wise from the Harlem-based series.

“It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking. We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us,” Coker says of the show, which focuses on Cage, who debuted during season 1 of Jessica Jones, and introduces comic book character Misty Knight to the Marvel television universe. “We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama. I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”

“[Misty Knight] is so larger than life, and being able to put the voice to it for the first time is exciting,” shares Simone Missick. “And then the writing was so rich. It was like, every day that you open the script, you’re like, ‘I really get to say this today? I get to do this today? I get to kick ass today?’ So it was a lot of fun.”

Colter talked about the balance between giving the fans what they expect, from the comics, and making the show something original. We already got to hear the character say “Sweet Christmas” in Jessica Jones, but what about his iconic yellow shirt?

“We were trying not to be on the nose. We’re going to give all the fans all the things they want,” the Ringer and Men in Black 3 actor says. “But we’ve got to bring it up a bit and step into the current time. So we’re going to make sure everybody’s happy, but don’t expect a yellow shirt every day. Let’s put it that way … We brought it to mustard. We started there. We knocked it down a bit. Not so bright.”

Simone Missick On 'Bomb-Ass' Script For Luke Cage, Will Be A "Real Treat For The Fans"

Simone Missick as Misty Knight

Excerpt from the article at MCU Exchange:

Now that we have been introduced to the worlds of both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, it’s time to move on to the next series in the Netflix world, Luke Cage. While we met Luke Cage (Mike Colter) himself in Jessica Jones, Marvel has assured us that each series will have it’s own tone and feel, so we can expect an entirely different feel for his series. Along with Cage, a character that many fans have been eager to see brought to life, the show will also bring another fan-favorite to the lime-light as they’ll introduce Misty Knight, portrayed by actress Simone Missick. As it stands, outside of the premiere date, the short teaser released for the series, and the confirmation of two directors, there’s still plenty we don’t know. Thankfully, with production having recently wrapped, it’s beginning to look as though that’ll begin to change over the coming months.

What did she know about Misty Knight going in? According to Missick, the answer is not very much.

No. Absolutely not… and I think that was a good thing, because so often as actors and people, you know you have an idea of what something is, and it can almost stifle what you allow for yourself to do. So going into it…it’s funny my husband and I were talking about it yesterday, ’cause every now and again it hits us we’re like “Motherfucker you're a super hero!” … This is crazy, there are only like three black female [heroes] in the Marvel Universe, it’s so small. It’s not three, but it’s small.

While discussing the scripts, Missick was quick to praise the writing staff on the show. As we’ve come to know, courtesy of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the Netflix shows have been very strong, and most of that is because they’re built on strong writing and ideas. It looks as though this will continue with Luke Cage this September.

It’s some great writing, you’ve got some writers from Southland, theater writers, just some awesome writers, our writers room is really, really strong… Strong people who have been in the industry for a really long time crafted these just bomb-ass scripts… With storylines and language that is so indicative of black culture, of hip-hop culture.

Simone Missick Joins Luke Cage as Misty Knight

Photo from myafrosgrowth.tumblr

Really excited for the new Luke Cage, I was surprised how much I liked Jessica Jones, and I'm hoping this has the same gritty, film-noir vibe. The multi-cultural casting is also awesome.

As Luke Cage begins production, the cast is starting to finally come together. Earlier today, it was reported that Theo Rossi had joined the cast in what looks to be a recurring villain role. His casting along with lead man Mike Colter, the reported Alfre Woodard, and Rosario Dawson has shaped the cast so far.

Now thanks to multiple reports, it looks like that has cast gotten a bit bigger. Comicbook.com has reported that they have been told that Misty Knight would appear in the first season of Luke Cage. They were not able to report on an actress but quickly got some help on that end as Deadline reported that Simone Missick would be the actress to portray her.

While in the comics, Misty Knight is a retired cop with a bionic arm, Comicbook.com seems to believe that we will meet her earlier in her journey.

When we meet her, she'll be a New York City police detective, who reluctantly partners up with Luke Cage. If Marvel decides to follow her comic arc closely, then I would guess she could lose her arm at the end of the first season as she tries to help Cage fend off whatever villain he is up against. This would give a tease of what's to come should Luke Cage get a second season or if Marvel and Netflix wanted to include her in The Defenders mini-series.

Luke Cage recently started production with a rumored release date of summer/fall 2016 exclusively on Netflix.

And also a little eye-candy just because...
