While promoting her latest film, Queen of Katwe, Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o spoke with Collider’s Steve Weintraub who promptly asked her about her upcoming roles both in Star Wars: Episode VII and Black Panther.

Nyong’o, who will be playing Nakia, a member of the Wakandan Dora Milaje, seems very eager to get going on Black Panther:

"I am so excited. I can’t wait to kick ass and learn all sorts of cool things that my body can do. I’m so looking forward to it, to work with Ryan Coogler who’s such an incredible human being. It’s gonna be fun, and the cast. The cast!"

Marvel Studios is pretty much a non-stop production wheel at this point, with 2 films (Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming) in production and one in pre-production (Avengers: Infinity War). Black Panther is next up on the list, with filming expected to begin in January of 2017, so Nyong’o will certainly be in preparation for her role, one that will seemingly be physically demanding. The Dora Milaje are the personal bodyguards and potential future wives of the Wakandan King and ALWAYS bad asses. Nyong’o’s role as Nakia is an interesting one as in the comics her obsession with her king leads her to betray him and ultimately join Erik Killmonger, one of T’Challa’s greatest enemies, in an alliance against their King. It’s not clear how far down that road the first Black Panther film will travel, but it’s certainly comforting to know that if/when the character does make that jump, it’ll be in the hands of such a talented actress.

Black Panther will be in theaters February 16th, 2018.
