Preacher and 12 Monkeys Renewed

Photo from Observer

Yay! Two solid shows have been confirmed for renewal according to Deadline. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Preacher plays out in a second season; especially since the first has dedicated so much time to setting up the premise. I'm enjoying the ride so far, but it's clear they have miles to go (pun intended). And 12 Monkeys has been almost unbelievably good this season, I'm not sure how they could top it with a third but I am excited to see what they come up with.

How Syfy is Leading The Charge With Imagining Diverse Futures

Photo from io9

io9 recently featured an article highlighting Syfy's concerted push to create shows with diverse casts and women in the lead.

Talking about 'The Killjoys':

Killjoys’ creator Michelle Lovretta’s motivations for the show stemmed out of her desire to see a very different world than what she had read and watched in science fiction. “I don’t want to just meet myself.” she noted, “I don’t want to meet people who look like myself. I don’t just want to meet people who have sex the way that I do; I don’t like that world. I like a world that is full-bodied and has a lot of variety in it and that’s also something that we kind of commit to trying to do, because there’s nothing more boring and bland and sameless, and if you want to be bland, you shouldn’t be in sci-fi.”

Furthermore, she envisioned that the show featured a woman of color from the onset. “When I first pitched the show concept there hadn’t been a spaceship show on the air in years, so I was already anticipating a tough sell.” Lovretta told us in a recent interview. “On top of that, I was insisting on a WOC at the ship’s helm, which hadn’t exactly been done a million times. But Syfy was fully behind Dutch from the start, and together we made a conscious effort towards casting a diverse lead.”

Some of my personal favorites are mentioned here. And while 12 Monkeys isn't as diverse as I would like it to be, the women kick butt all day every day. Read the full article at io9:

12 Monkeys...

If you don't watch 12 Monkeys you should stop what you're doing and take it up right now. After a great first season I was concerned about where they could go for the second, but this season has been so good. Creative sci-fi storytelling at its best.

Syfy Sets Premiere Dates for ’12 Monkeys,’ Freshman Drama ‘Hunters’

Photo from Den of Geek.us

Syfy has announced premiere dates for two dramas, newcomer “Hunters” and sophomore “12 Monkeys,” which will bow on back-to-back weeks in April.

“Hunters,” a thriller that revolves around a highly classified government organization that tracks and fights alien terrorists, will premiere Monday, April 11 at 10 p.m. The series is from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Natalie Chaidez (who will also serve as showrunner) and Emile Levisetti, and is inspired by best-selling author Whitley Strieber’s novel, “Alien Hunter.”

Nathan Phillips stars as Baltimore FBI agent Flynn Carroll, whose wife goes missing. Britne Oldford plays Regan, a valuable operative of the Exo-Terrorism Unit who keeps secrets of her own. The series also stars Julian McMahon as McCarthy, a dangerously unhinged terrorist.

The time-travel drama “12 Monkeys” kicks off its 13-episode second season on Monday, April 18 at 9 p.m., serving as the lead-in to “Hunters.” Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, Kirk Acevedo, Emily Hampshire, Barbara Sukowa and Todd Stashwick reprise their roles.

Hunters looks promising (and gruesome). The first episode of Season 2 for 12 Monkeys is available on Syfy.com right now. That show is totally underrated, check it out.
